Overview

Metifex Pty Ltd was incorporated in 2006 to specifically provide services to the mining industry for and on behalf of owners. Metifex comprises a group of highly experienced personnel with background and proven capability in mining operations, engineering, and project delivery fields. The Metifex team has wide and varied expertise and individually have undertaken various roles in project development at all phases of study from scoping to full feasibility then ultimately to project delivery, commissioning and production. Associations with several consultants in the industry enhance the capabilities of Metifex across a range of process technologies and delivery services.

 

Principals

Project Director: Seit Meka

Seit is one of the founding partners of mining sector specialist Metifex Pty Ltd and has been the Managing Director of Metifex since 2007. He was previously Engineering Manager for Ausenco Limited from 1998 through to 2006 and was one the original shareholders of the company prior to Ausenco listing on the ASX in 2006. Prior to joining Ausenco, Seit lead Kaiser Engineers Queensland engineering operations. Seit also has a deep background in mining and industrial operations having held several senior project and engineering positions with Western Mining Corporation, Mount Isa Mines Limited, James Hardie Industries and Queensland Alumina. Seit is an honours graduate mechanical engineer with over 38 years’ experience in engineering and project delivery within the mining and mineral processing sectors. Seit possesses strong business management and project implementation skills and has been involved in many challenging projects both locally and internationally from study through to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations either as project manager, business manager, engineer, client representative, independent technical expert or review. A Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, Seit maintains an active involvement with various industry associations.

Technical Director: Stuart Smith

Stuart is a metallurgical engineer and founding partner of Metifex having spent almost 40 years in the primary gold and base metal processing sectors. Stuart has worked in operations, design, commissioning, project delivery, study development and management. Stuart has been involved in the development, optimisation, review or operation of projects in some 25 countries and has also provided training services to operational mines as well as university lecturing in Process Design.

In his role as Technical Director of Metifex Stuart has provided consulting and metallurgical services to many pre-development, development and operating mining companies as well as mining finance organisations and equity groups. Stuart previously held senior roles with Ausenco where he headed up the Process Engineering groups for the company and General Manager of the Ausenco Perth office as well as shareholder ownership in the company. Stuart worked for Mine and Process Engineering Services (Minproc) as a design and commissioning metallurgist before joining Ausenco. Prior to joining Minproc Stuart worked for operating mining companies including the role of Registered Mine Manager.

Through his many roles and assignments Stuart has been involved in numerous projects providing client representation services, operational reviews, design, detailed design review, peer review, gold carbon circuit modelling, budget control, optimisation, hazard studies/reviews, commissioning management and pre-operational readiness work as well as flowsheet development, problem solving and test work design/management. Stuart has also undertaken due diligence and independent technical expert work on behalf of owners, investors and financiers.

As well as designing numerous gravity gold and gold leaching facilities, Stuart has designed operational cyanide detoxification plant and a number of water treatment facilities.

Other experience has been in the base metal and precious metal flotation fields, lithium ore processing, graphite processing, copper solvent extraction and electrowinning, back fill preparation and distribution (paste and conventional back fills), chemical production (sodium cyanide), manganese oxide production as well as work in phosphate production optimisation. Stuart has a degree in Applied Science majoring in Metallurgy and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
